Kris Cuppens (Neeroeteren, 22nd of may 1962) is a
Flemish actor .He discovered theatre at the secondary school. After his studies for architect, he stays in
Brussels . During an audition for Jan Fabre, he rediscovers his love for the theatre. He stays at the royal conservatory to become a professional actor. After that, he leaves Belgium for extra courses at the Lee Strasberg’s Theatre Institute inNew York .In 1995 he’s on television in the serie "Heterdaad" (caught red handed) in the role of police inspector Willy Martens. He meets Dirk Tuypens with whom he starts an engagement in the peace movement and bomspotting. This collaboration leads to the theatrical production "Vaderland" (fatherland). At the scenes of "Heterdaad" he meets Joachim Lafosse with whom he will make a series of films like "Tribu", "ça rend heureux", "nue propriété".
Although he crosses the linguistical border between Dutch and French in Belgium, he does not forget his Flemish and
Limburgish roots. He writes a theatrical monologue “lied” (song) which is for a great part autobiographic. His song tells about 3 generations of Flemings (his grandfather, his father and himself), the war, the strikes in the coal mines inLimburg .The 18th of November 2006, he wins a prize with “Lied” (“Taalunie Toneelschrijfprijs”).
He teaches about drama and theatre in
Maastricht ,Leuven ,Antwerp andBrussels .
