John Cornish (born 1929) is a British teacher of
aikido .John Cornish studied
judo from 1952 at theBudokwai under Trevor Leggett. Arrived inJapan early 1958 and studied at thehombu dojo for aikido and at theKodokan for judo as a soto deshi until late 1964. He attended early morning aikido practice underKisaburo Osawa (9th dan) when he was used asuke , and afternoon practices withKoichi Tohei ,Kisshomaru Ueshiba andMorihei Ueshiba (the founder of Aikido). He was a member of the Kenshusei class at the Kodokan and had the privilege of opening the All Japan Games and giving a demonstration of judo kata to the Emperor with his partnerDonn Draeger . He is one of the few qualified westerners to hold a teaching and examination licence for the Kodokan judo katas. He has published a book onKodokan Goshin Jutsu having been taught byKenji Tomiki directly. Currently teaches traditional aikido at the Budowkai in London.
