Francis James Holland

Francis James Holland,( January 20 1828 – January 27 1907) was a Canon in the Church of England. He was born in St. George, Middlesex, a son of Henry Holland and Margaret Emma Caldwell.

He went to Cambridge University in 1846 and ordained in 1851. He was appointed Vicar at St Dunstan's, Canterbury 1853-61, Six Preacher and Canon at Canterbury 1859-82 and 1882-1907 and Minister at Quebec Chapel, Marylebone (Middlesex) 1861-83. He was sometime Chaplain to HM Queen Victoria and Hon. Chaplain to HM King Edward VII.

Circum 1880 he established a trust fund for two independent schools in London (see Francis Holland School for more information).

His career is also covered by the “Barchester Chronicles” by Clive Dewey published in London in 1991.

He married Mary Sybilla Lyall in 1855. (She later converted to converting to Catholicism and was a sister of Alfred Comyn Lyall ). They had six children (four sons (one of whom died young) and two daughters).
