Varada

The Varada River is a river in central Karnataka, India.

Geography

The Varada river originates in Vardamoola. It flows through Western Ghats and enters the central districts of Karnataka (Haveri and Bellary). The river joins the Tungabhadra river at Galaganath.

It has been life line of kannada people along its course. Check dams have been constructed along the river's course. This provides water for irrigation, and for domestic purposes during summer. There are no major irrigation projects on this river, although the government is considering a major irrigation project on this river.

History

The river basin has lot of importance in the history and civilization. It’s along the river basins, where most of the civilizations rose and grew. The river has divinity associated with it for Indians.
