Byron High School is located in the small city of Byron, Illinois.
The Byron school colors are Orange and Black. The mascot is the Tigers. Although taxes from the Byron Nuclear Generating Station allow the school district to employ many employees and activities, in 2006 Byron passed a referendum that raised taxes for support to build a new middle school and a new wing off of the high school. The current administration's questionable management and unbridled spending has caused controversy in recent months. The recent implementation of picture IDs and surveillance cameras has generated unease by many students, parents and concerned community members. One distressed mother was quoted as saying, "I hope you're all familiar with Orwell's 1984, because Big Brother has come to town." Byron High School students also receive high scores in terms of statistical percentage in state and national standardized tests.
The Byron Tigers won state championships in wrestling in 1995 and football in 1999. Byron was runner-ups in wrestling in 1999.
