John William Ditter, Jr. is a
judge on theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania . Born in 1921 inPhiladelphia ,Pennsylvania Judge Ditter graduated fromUrsinus College in 1943. From 1943 to 1946, and again from 1951 to 1953, Judge Ditter served a Captain in the United States Navy Reserves. He received hisLL.B. from theUniversity of Pennsylvania Law School in 1948. Judge Ditter clerked on the Court of Common Pleas for Montgomery County,Pennsylvania from 1948 to 1950. In 1951 he worked as an assistantdistrict attorney in Montgomery County, a position he would return to from 1953 to 1955. In 1956 he was promoted to first assistant district attorney. From 1953 to 1963 he also worked in private practice inAmbler, Pennsylvania . In 1964 he became a judge on the Court of Common Pleas for Montgomery County, a position he held until 1970, when PresidentRichard Nixon appointed him to the Eastern District. Judge Ditter tooksenior status in 1986.References
