Atomic heraldry

Atomic heraldry

Atomic heraldry is heraldry characterised by the appearance of charges including the atom or showing the motion of parts of the atom; more loosely, it may describe heraldry in which atoms or the component parts thereof are represented through a combination of other charges. Obviously, this is a late development in heraldry.

[http://www.ngw.nl/int/fra/s/s-vulbas.htm The arms of Saint-Vulbas, Ain, France] show "a sign of" the atom.

The arms of George Georgiou contain "a representation of an atom with four electrons Sable in orbits Gules". [http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm30ddf0?20050311215402309C6F84&DN=00000001]

There is an instance of a methane molecule in the arms of Hoerskool Secunda. [http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm30ddf0?20050811191958333B8860&DN=00000003]
