Jonathan Sprout (b 4/12/1952) is a singer, songwriter and recording artist from
Pennsylvania , US. He has released nine albums, the last six of which featurechildren's music . His two most recent albums feature original songs about specific American Heroes. Their titles are American Heroes and More American Heroes. His recordings have garnered awards from organizations includingThe Parents' Choice Awards , NAPPA and theFilm Advisory Board .Sprout is a spokesperson and advocate for Real Heroes to children, having written and co-written songs about 20 great American Heroes including:
Thomas Edison ,Sacajawea ,George Washington ,Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ,Amelia Earhart ,Harriet Tubman ,Benjamin Franklin ,Abraham Lincoln ,The Wright Brothers ,Sojourner Truth ,Neil Armstrong ,Susan B. Anthony ,Eleanor Roosevelt ,Jackie Robinson ,Frederick Douglass ,Johnny Appleseed ,Tecumseh andHelen Keller .Sprout was born in
Hightstown, New Jersey . He was educated atBucknell University where he received his B.A. in psychology. During his college years he developed his love of music and performance. His years after college found him seeking audiences in small venues, bars, and ski resorts. His first album, "Angel's Everywhere" (Green Mountain Records, 1977) was a production of original writings from those years.In 1979, he formed the band "Light" to promote his new original work. Though the band only lasted two years, it was instrumental in introducing Jonathan to ensemble work and collaborative writing.
Sprout has performed more than 4,400 concerts for children since 1981 and more than 5,500 life time concerts since 1972.
