Fulchester

Fulchester

Fulchester is a fictitious town where most of the comic strips in the humorous "Viz" comic are based, the town being based near Newcastle upon Tyne judging by the dialects and cultural references. It was taken from the British television drama "Crown Court." The name has sexual innuendo, reflecting the crude, toilet humour style of the comic.

The Internet domain fuck.co.uk was originally registered by a UK ISP who claimed to be promoting the "Fulchester Underwater Canoeing Klubb" [http://web.archive.org/web/20000520010454/http://www.fuck.co.uk/] in order to satisfy UK domain name registration rules at the time (August 1996) which required a name application to be representative of the registrant's company name. "fuck.co.uk"'s creation happened within an hour of the controller of ".uk" domains dropping of rules relating to offensive words, and was the first properly offensive ".uk" name to be registered. Clearly hastily contrived and inspired by "Viz" comic, the registration was allowed.

Fulchester United is also a real soccer team based in Saskatoon, Canada who play in Men's Division 2.
