Triennial of Photography

Triennial of Photography

The Triennial of Photography Hamburg originated as an initiative of the photographer and collector F.C. Gundlach, with the support of the directors of Hamburg’s major museums. Every third year since 1999 a festival of photography has taken place in and around Hamburg, for which the cooperation of cultural institutions is crucial. The internationally unique joint venture of ten of the city’s major museums and cultural institutions also encouraged many art galleries and other organizations to open their premises to photography.Meanwhile, the Triennial of Photography Hamburg has become an important festival of international reputation. In 2005, 83 museums, galleries, and other organizations with 114 photo exhibitions took part in the 3rd Triennial of Photography that was visited by 260,000 guests. Besides a great variety of exhibitions presenting the whole range of photographic techniques and styles, the festival was complemented by symposia, lectures, and conferences.

The 4th Triennial of Photography Hamburg takes place from the 11th to the 20th of April 2008.
