Cairo American College

Cairo American College

Cairo American College (CAC) is an international, independent, co-educational day school, located in the Cairene suburb of Maadi in Cairo, Egypt. It has students from pre-school to grade 12.

CAC also offers extra-curricular athletic activities, including a track team, swimming, basketball, baseball, volleyball, cross country, water polo, football (soccer), and intramural activities that include ultimate frisbee and flag football.

CAC also hosts academic co-curriculars such as JV and Varsity Academic Games, a quiz bowl for high school students to display their prowess in mathematics, history, geography and science. CAC also has a forensic debate team.

CAC has a history of community service that has led to a service learning requirement as part of its curriculum. Students perform a certain number of service hours on a chosen project (from animal shelters to refugee centers to Ramadan festivities for the underprivileged), while analytical relating their experiences in a semi-weekly class. CAC also hosts an annual charity festival that invites local charities to set up fundraising booths on campus.

In a mostly favourable review, the "Good Schools Guide International" said that pupils at the school are "likely to be stimulated, have fun and emerge with a can-do attitude and the ability to achieve success in their chosen fields," although it also states that "it may overwhelm."
