Mobile Clubbing

Mobile Clubbing, or Partyboying is a type of practical joke where many people meet in a public place and dance to mp3 players for a short time before dispersing. Mobile Clubbing is a Flash mob Silent disco often organized through social networking websites. To an observer it would appear that the people around them begin to dance to inaudible music, and suddenly stop.

Mobile Clubbing was founded 2003 by London based artists Ben Cummins (also founder of Pillow fight club) and Emma Davis. Since 2003 such actions have taken place in several cities all around the globe, most commonly in the public space and train stations.

While each of these flash mob events are different, all incidences of Mobile Clubbing would have these common rules for the participants

* Dance to the music of your own audio device
* Use the whole space
* Be aware of the safety of non-participants

Possible future developments

Mobile clubbing may allow for development of new dance styles, if it is applied at suitable locations. For example, one can try dancing on trees or other objects (similar to those, which took place at Loveparade), if the participants climb up and perform their mobile clubbing. Since little noise is produced, mobile clubbing using earphones may therefore be suitable. Using a large-scale sound system could result in trouble with authorities, as such actions may be illegal. Mobile clubbing can be used however for developing dances of any kind, which are impossible or impracticable in "normal clubs", either as they require special features of the location, require too much space, or are too dangerous.
