Ronnie Von

Ronaldo Lindenberg von Schilgem Cintra Nogueira (b. July 17, 1944, Niterói, Rio de Janeiro), known by his artistic name Ronnie Von, is a Brazilian singer and television show host. He became known in the sixties associated with the Jovem Guarda. Ronnie Von currently presents a show called "Todo Seu" for the Gazeta channel.

Jovem Guarda

Some of his greater successes include the hits "Meu Bem" - a Portuguese version of The Beatles' "Girl" - and "A Praça". He quickly earned the nickname "Príncipe", or Prince, after participating in an interview with Hebe Camargo. Ronnie started hosting his own television program in 1966, "O Pequeno Mundo de Ronnie Von". Os Mutantes became a regular guest band on the show. During this period, the press tried to create a supposed rivalry between him and Roberto Carlos.

Psychedelic years

In 1968, he released a self-titled album that broke from the naïveté of the movement and ventured in more psychedelic and experimental sounds. Following this release came "A Misteriosa Luta do Reino de Parassempre contra o império de Nuncamais" (1969) and "A Máquina Voadora" (1970). Though it did not meet with much success, today Ronnie's experimental work is being rediscovered by a new generation of rock listeners, rendering him a high degree of underground cult status.

Triva

*Ronnie Von is the great great grandson of a nobleman, the Marquis Baependi (Manoel Jacintho Nogueira da Gama).
*Ronnie Von was the one to suggest the name for the Tropicália band Os Mutantes.
*When first given the suggestion of his artistic name by Eli Barra, vocalist of the Brazilian Beatles, he protested and pointed out that the name "Von" means "of" in German, thus requiring another name to follow.
*The nickname "Príncipe" is said to have come from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince".
