Mac Sweeney

David McCann "Mac" Sweeney (born September 15, 1955) is a U.S. Representative from Texas.

Born in Wharton, Texas, Sweeney attended public schools. B.A., University of Texas, 1978.He attended University of Texas School of Law from 1979 to 1981.He served on the staff of Senator John Tower from 1977 to 1978, and Governor John Connally from 1979 to 1980.He served as director of administrative operations at the White House from 1981 to 1983.

Sweeney was elected as a Republican to the Ninety-ninth and to the One Hundredth Congresses (January 3, 1985-January 3, 1989.He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1988 to the One Hundred First Congress as Democrat Greg Laughlin defeated him in the general election.

Soon after the campaign, he left for Heliopolis, Egypt and did humanitarian and missionary work in the Cairo area.He now splits time between Bethesda, Maryland and Houston, Texas. He has four children.
