Ainna Fawcett-Henesy

Ainna Fawcett-Henesy, FRCN is Regional Advisor Nursing and Midwifery, WHO/EURO Health Systems Policies Unit for the Europe Regional Office, based in Copenhagen. She was appointed to this position in March 2001.

Her role is to provide technical advice to governments on healthcare reform. Before joining the World Health Organisation in 1995, Ainna Fawcett-Henesy spent 30 years working in the UK NHS as a hospital nurse and health visitor, and later on in a range of top-level posts in both nursing leadership and health service management.

During this time she served on many national and international health policy committees and has received a number of awards for her contribution to nursing and healthcare, including a fellowship at the Royal College of Nursing.

For example Ainna was Nurse Advisor to the London Implementation Group, a Conservative Government initiative to close Guy's and Bart's hospitals and was also Deputy Chief Nurse of England for a short time.

She retired in 2004.
