Shabkhoon

Shabkhoon

"Shabkhoon" is an Urdu literary journal published by Shamsur Rahman Faruqi from Allahabad in India.Shabkhoon was the flagbearer of the modernist voice in Urdu literature from the decade of sixties to 2005 when it finally ceased publication. Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, a Saraswathi Samman awardee (1996), and an outstanding critic/poet/ fiction writer/reviewer/translator/lexicographer turned the magazine into a movement in 70s. Entire generations of poets and authors got a platform by Shabkhoon though some critics opposed Faruqi for using his magazine's popularity and credibility to remove his opponents from the world of literature.
