] It's two key plays are the "The Sword of Peace" by William Hardy (also involved in Unto These Hills - another outdoor drama about the Cherokee) and "Pathway to Freedom" by Mark Sumner (also involved in The Lost Colony - another outdoor drama about the Native Americans and colonists near Roanoke Island). Both plays highlight these stories in local contexts of the Cane Creek Meeting established October 7, 1751 in what is now extreme southern Alamance County (during the events of "Pathway to Freedom") and was for a time part of Guilford County (during the events of "Sword of Peace"). The meeting hall is a few hundred feet from the amphitheater. Other productions include a musical and children's theater. The "Sword of Peace" first production was in 1973 at the site.

The Sword of Peace

"The Sword of Peace" is a dramatic historical portrayal of the American Revolution war period and the struggle of the pacifist Quakers. Two days after the Battle of Guilford Court House the British army moved south and some stopped at Snow Camp and took over the house of Simon Dixon, patriarch of the community.

Pathway to Freedom

"Pathway to Freedom" tells the story of the Quakers who assisted the fugitives with the Underground Railroad before the American Civil War. Levi Coffin, a member of the Cane Creek Meeting from Guilford County, assisted escaped slaves and also to teach slaves to read (by reading the Bible) used a building near the former Sylvan schoolhouse about a mile and a half from the amphitheater (the current Sylvan Elementary School is not located on the same land.)
