"Corson" sailed from
San Diego, California ,12 February 1945 to tend planes briefly atPearl Harbor andEniwetok , sailing on to reachUlithi 1 April . She remained on duty at Ulithi, with the exception of two voyages to thePalaus in May and participation in the bombardment ofEil Malk Island on7 May until24 June . She served atEniwetok from1 July to7 August and atOkinawa from15 August to10 September .End-of-war activity
"Corson" dropped anchor at Nagasaki
11 September 1945 , and tended planes there, at Sasebo, and inHiro Wan until20 January 1946 , when she sailed forPearl Harbor andAlameda, California , arriving9 February . "Corson" was placed out of commission in reserve21 June 1946 .Reactivated during the Korean crisis
Recommissioned
13 February 1951 , "Corson" departedLong Beach, California ,17 April forOkinawa , where she served as station tender from11 May to7 October . She returned to Alameda26 October , and tended seaplanes atSan Diego, California , until her next tour of duty in the Western Pacific from8 December 1952 to4 August 1953 . During this cruise, she tended planes inJapan ,Okinawa , and thePescadores ."Corson" returned to the western Pacific to tend seaplanes off Japan from
4 January to5 August 1954 , and again from17 January 1955 to24 July . During this tour, she served as station tender atHong Kong , conducted reserve training atSubic Bay , laid aseadrome in thePescadores , acted as advance base support atKeelung , and served as plane guard offIndonesia for Air Force jet aircraft flying toBangkok on agood-will mission . Returning to Alameda, "Corson" was again placed out of commission in reserve9 March 1956 .Final decommissioning
"Corson" was laid up in the
Pacific Reserve Fleet and struck from theNaval Register ,1 April 1966 . She was eventually sunk as a target.References
