"Alcithoe calva" is a large deepwater sea snail, a marine prosobranch gastropod mollusc in the family Volutidae, the volutes.

Distribution

This species is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand at depths of between 70 and 110 m.

hell description

The shell of this species is similar to that of "Alcithoe swainsoni" but with a tall narrow spire, a long narrow aperture, and no columellar callus plate.

The shell coloration is yellowish-brown with very faint brownish zigzag markings.

The shell height is up to 177 mm, and the width is up to 64 mm.
