Steven Spring Foundation

The Steven Spring Foundation (SSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New Orleans, was founded in 2005 by Peter Spring to provide assistance to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Initial efforts focused on collecting and distributing donated instruments to replace those that were lost in the storm. However, the SSF has recently expanded its focus from helping music students and musicians at the individual level to developing strong working relationships with local school systems as well. The SSF provides piano tuning, moving and repair services to the Recovery School District and is helping to establish a band program at Frederick A. Douglass High School in the Ninth Ward. They also provide free music programs for local children.
