In Hopi mythology, 'Cha'kwaina' (One who cries) is a kachina that appears in Pamuya ceremonies at First Mesa. It usually carries a rattle and bow and arrow and is thought to originally be from Laguna pueblo, later adopted by the Zuni then the Hopi. An alternative spelling is 'Tcakwaina'. Chakwaina wears a large eagle plume fan behind his head. CHAKWAINA represents Esteban the Moor who led the search for the Seven Cities of Cibola. ...
