The Limelight (Belfast)

The Limelight in Belfast, Northern Ireland is a bar, nightclub and music venue. The complex on the city's Ormeau Avenue includes The Limelight, a bar called Katy Daly's, and Spring and Airbrake. The nearby Auntie Annie's Porterhouse on the Dublin Road is also owned by The Limelight. The venue is unrelated to the other Limelight which originated in New York City.

The Limelight, and its associated venues commonly host bands yet to achieve commercial success. Oasis played the venue on September 4th 1994, [ [http://www.oasisnews.com.br/?page_id=6 oasisnews.com] ] [ [http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_20020407/ai_n12839168 "Sunday Mirror"] ] and according to many local people, the band received a phone call saying that their album "Definitely Maybe" had reached number one in the UK album charts, shortly before the band cut their gig short and ran out of the venue to celebrate. Other sources claim the album did not reach number one until the day after. Noel Gallagher has commented on the venue:Fact|date=August 2007

The Limelight is now part of our heritage. There was a great buzz when the owner Eamonn McCann informed me we had hit the No 1 spot that night in '94. I'll always remember this place with affection. We had a party that night and the audience joined in. That was the start of our success story.

In Spring 2007 a management buyout of The Limelight and sister venue Auntie Annie's Porterhouse was completed.
