"Gymnopholus" is a genus of beetles in family Curculionidae ocurring in New Guinea. Many of them are notable for the growth of algae, diatoms, fungi, lichens and mosses on their backs [Gressitt,J.L; Sedlacek,J. Papuan Weevil Genus Gymnopholus: Supplement and Further Studies in Epizoic Symbiosis. Pacific Insects 9(3) : 481-500 (1967)] (especially the subgenus "Symbiopholus").
