Sainte-Anne-des-Monts is a city in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of the province of Quebec in Canada.

Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, a small city between mountains and sea, it is on the right shore of the St-Lawrence river estuary. Some history, first, the name Notre-Dame was already stated on the schematic maps since 1709. The official nomenclature came from the seigniorial of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts conceded to Denis Riverin in 1688. The first Annemonties are establishing small fisheries in 1815. The city is center of pilgrimage at the beginning of the XXth century. It is partially destroyed by conflagration in 1915.

Now a day, tourism is a local industry. On one side the sea, Exploramer, and an activity complex on the Saint-Laurence River aquatic fauna , where you can see an aquarium offering 21 tanks containing fish, marine organism, thematic exhibition about the sea, offshore excursions and many more cultural events.

On the other side the mountains where is located the National Park of Gaspésie door to the McGerrigle and Chic-Chocs mountains. They offer a panoramic photographic opportunity out of this world for the apex of Mont-Jacques-Cartier, second highest summit in Quebec.

To welcome the tourists, there is a Youth hostel located right on the sea shore (St-Lawrence River). This inn is the perfect base camp to explore the Gaspésie Park. Now the guests can take advantage of a small spa. Affiliated with this Inn, guests will be given access to Refuges right in the middle of our natural forest or sea shore. The route between refuges will be variable, as several services will be offered such as showers, toilet, and small ovens. An excellent activity is to explore the forest and mountains using snowshoe, snowmobile or walking, a 100 % adventure in open air.

This area is true paradise for natural sites enthusiasts; as cross-country skiing, Telemarkski, pedestrian or equestrian rides, paraglide, sea kayak, goes fishing in the river and off the snowmobile giving access to mark out paths touring the Gaspésie area. Moose can be found in this park since the livestock is high as we find the caribou’s herds of in the South of the Saint Lawrence River.

A new activity has risen in Gaspésie: D'Arbre en Arbre (tree to tree) it is a guest’s adventure at the top of trees, made of spectacular sequence of challenges. An emotional “circuit” one might say, following the forest winds. “Challengers” are invited to explore the beauty and the location diversity.

Tourelle (St-Joachim-de-Tourelle) is the next city now part of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.

Transport [modifier]

The municipality is strategically located on the route 132, touring the Gaspésie peninsula. The route 299, locally called the Park route, is linking Sainte-Anne-des-Monts to New Richmond, by taking a smooth and yet outstanding panoramic route through the boroughs. The same route also gives access to the Gaspésie National Park. The federal government is managing a wharf where you can find a pier for pleasure boats. A landing runway can be found in the outskirts of the municipality. Transport by rail is not available.Sainte-Anne-des-Monts is the center of collective transportation and para-transit for the Haute-Gaspésie area. Indeed, Transport Sans Frontière is offering the service.

Services [modifier]

Because of its size, the municipality is a cluster for a scattered population. WE can find a hospital and Local Community Services Center (CLSC French), one high school, a police station (QPP), a Justice Hall, a cultural center and an auditorium, libraries and several government offices servicing the area in regards to fishing and fauna. A college (CEGEP) is located in Matane, only at 90 kilometres from Sainte-Anne-des-Monts The municipality is the access point to the Park de la Gaspésie, where one can find a hotel, motels and restaurants. Popular chain restaurants can be found such as Tim Hortons, Subway and Couche-Tard (convenience store). We can find two (2) large surface grocery stores and gasoline stations.
