x264 is a free software library for encoding H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video streams. Written from scratch by Loren Merritt, Laurent Aimar, Eric Petit, Min Chen, David Johnson (pT), Justin Clay, Måns Rullgård, Radek Czyz, Alex Izvorski, Dan Peled, Alex Wright, Christian Heine, and Jason Garrett-Glaser. It is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

Several graphical user interfaces have been made for the command line version, including Staxrip, MeGUI, [http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=90732 AutoAC] and a [http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=95590 x264CLI GUI (requires .NET (1.1) framework)] .

Capabilities

As of August 2008, x264 implements more H.264 features than any other encoder.
