Bremo Slave Chapel, constructed in 1835 and located in
Bremo Bluff, Virginia ,USA , is the only knownslave chapel in the Commonwealth ofVirginia . ThisGothic Revival structure served as the slave chapel for Bremo, the adjacent plantation of General John Hartwell Cocke. Cocke was deeply concerned with the religious and moral state of his slaves, which drove him to construct this slave chapel.Bremo Slave Chapel was listed on the
National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Today, the building is used as the parish hall for the Grace Episcopal Church.References
