- Armand Mattelart
Armand Mattelart (born
January 8 ,1936 ) is a Belgiansociologist and well known as a Leftist French scholar. His work deals with media, culture and communication, specially in their historical and international dimensions.In 1962, he graduated from the University of Lovaina, Belgium and departed to Chile, where he lived until 1973. There he was a professor of the sociology of communication at the
Universidad Católica de Chile , and a United Nations expert in social development. In 1975 he direct a feature-length film on Chile,La Spirale . WhenSalvador Allende won the presidency, he worked in the media reformation program. After the coup of 1973, he left Chile for France. Between 1975 and 1982, he taught at the University of Paris VII and VIII. Since 1983 he has been Professor of Information and Communication Sciences at the Universite de Haute-Bretagne (Rennes 2), and in the postgraduate program at Paris II (Nouvelle Sorbonne) Rennes 2.He has carried out numerous research projects in Europe, Latin America, and Africa.
