- Bruce Poulin
Bruce Poulin is a Franco-Ontarian who was born in
Vanier, Ontario in 1962. After graduating from High School at the age of 16 he joined theCanadian Forces where he served for more than 22 years in both the Regular Force and the Reserve Component specialising in federal defence policy development and public affairs. He drafted the submission to Treasury Board which helped establish the Pearson Peacekeeping Center inClementsport, Nova Scotia . While in the military he was the first member of his family to attend theRoyal Military College of Canada inKingston, Ontario where he graduated with First Class Honours. He later became the first Canadian military officer on active service to attend and graduate from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University in International Relations specializing in Conflict Management.Captain (ret’d) Bruce Poulin gained considerable notoriety in 1998 when he voluntarily came forward to support the allegations of sexual harassment of a female waitress against a senior officer in the military. A series of high profile investigations, including that of the CF Ombudsman at the time Mr. André Marin, ensued but proved rather inconclusive. After retiring from the military in 2001, he started his own part-time consulting business and worked full-time as the Manager for Media and External Relations and a Service Officer for the
Royal Canadian Legion .Bruce Poulin has been a ward councillor and an active volunteer in his community and is largely known and respected for championing human rights and building bridges between gender, linguistic, ethnic and cultural groups in his community. He is particularly proud to have been one of the first to argue for and allow girls to play on his all boys East Ottawa Vanier Voyageur competitive minor hockey team.Fact|date=December 2007 He remains an active volunteer with the St-John Ambulance and a motivational speaker to High School kids in Ottawa, ON and
Gatineau , QC. He is also an active member of the Eastview Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, the Centre Francophone de Vanier and the Optimist Club. Bruce is a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in recognition for his exemplary volunteer work. He is a single dad with three children, Jean-Mathieu, Olivier and Catherine.Bruce was the acclaimed PC Candidate for the Ottawa-Vanier Riding during the 2007 Ontario Provincial election. He came in second out of six candidates in the riding during the subject election. To his credit, he holds the distinction of being the first PC candidate in the history of the riding to be endorsed by the Ottawa Citizen. He was also the only Ontario candidate to be featured in a nation-wide National Post profile during the campaign. Since November 2007 Bruce has resumed his work with one of the country's largest not-for-profit organizations and continues to be an active member of his community.
