Rudi M. Brewster

Rudi M. Brewster is an American federal judge best known for 2006 ruling against Microsoft for patent infringements tied to the licensing of the MP3 format.

Biography

Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Brewster attended
Princeton University and joined Navy ROTC. He later served as a naval aviator. He graduated from Stanford Law School with a J.D. in 1960.

Brewster worked at the law firm of Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye, until he was appointed and confirmed to the federal bench, 1984, by President Ronald Reagan.

He holds a fellowship with the American College of Trial Lawyers, is an associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates and serves as President and chancellor: Louis M. Welsh Inn of Court. He is also a member of the J. Clifford Wallace Inn of Court
