Empty is the third commercial single from the album "Live It Out" by Canadian indie rock band Metric following Poster of a Girl (excluding "Handshakes" which was a radio promo in Canada). It was released as a single on February 19, 2007 [http://angryape.com/reviews/2007/02/metric-empty] , after the band completed a tour supporting Bloc Party. In Europe it is the second single released. It was available as a 7" compact disc vinyl CD single for a limited time in the UK, and as a digital download on iTunes. It is the least successful Metric single from their second album, though it is a fan favourite for many [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWJQPeIVJIA] . The single is still circulating widely on the internet.

Music video

The video was directed by Jaron Albertin [http://www.ilovemetric.com/media.html] .

It takes place in a large house surrounded by complete blackness. The house inside has been completely destroyed, with every item inside thrown carelessly around each of its rooms. As the song begins, all of the strewn items begin to fly into the air and out the door; this happens over the course of the video, intervening with shots of Emily Haines singing. At the end, all of the clutter is gone and each of her fellow band members (Jimmy Shaw, Joules-Scott Key, and Joshua Winstead) are now visible, previously hidden by the mess. The video ends with a cross-section of the house and each of its members sitting lifelessly in all of the rooms, as the lights go out in some rooms.
