Prince Saunders (1775–1839) was an
African-American author, diplomat, and scholar probably born atLebanon, Connecticut .Career
Saunders began teaching at the African school of
Colchester, Connecticut in 1806. He attendedMoor's Charity School atDartmouth College in 1807 and 1808, and thereafter taught in Boston andHaiti . He was later sent toLondon by KingHenri Christophe to obtain means of instruction. He was fired for reasons unknown upon his return, but later returned to introduce the concept ofvaccination and personally vaccinate King Christophe's children. He became theattorney-general of theHaiti Black Republic before his death in 1839.Works
