The results, shown by the league tables, indicate an improvement at key stages 3 and 4 and, in 2006, they were in to the 100 schools for this criteria in the league tables.
History
The school was previously known as the Farmer Road School, which was built during 1902 and opened on June 15th 1903 as a school for boys and girls of all ages. During the 1940’s, it became a secondary boys’ school, and remained so for 40 years. In 1986, it was reorganised again: it became co-educational, admitting both boys and girls from 11-16 years.
In 1957, the school was renamed in honour of George Mitchell, a student who had attended the school from 1923-1927. He won the

The buildings have been expanded greatly during the last few years. A new gym and a new science block have been built. The school is currently undergoing extensive redecoration and refurbishment.
In January 1994, they opened a new Arts Centre to house our lessons of art, dance, drama and music. The school, which has a whole-school Arts policy, achieved the prestigious national
