Glengormley High School

Glengormley High School is a secondary school in the town of Newtownabbey in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It was opened in September 1971 and for more than 30 years has consistently provided a high stand of education for young people of all abilities. All pupils are encouraged to succeed both academically and creatively; each individual talent is actively looked for nurtured. Sixth form courses are very successful and attract a large number of new pupils including a sizeable percentage from grammar schools.

It is a non-selective school accepting children from all academic backgrounds. The school is situated approx 15min from Belfast City in a large suburb of Belfast, it is set on extensive grounds with 3 main teaching buildings, various gardens, greenhouse, tennis/basketball courts, running track, rugby and football pitches. Recent renovations have seen a new sixth form center added and also a top of the range indoor gym and sports hall.

The school received specialist status as an ICT Academy and for many years has led the way in information technology teaching and facilities in the area. It has close links with local primary schools and encourages pupils to volunteer within the community via the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

The school has a number of sports clubs achieving success mainly in hockey, football and netball, however more recently a dance squad has been established and they have been very successful. A number of ex students have went on to achieve huge sporting success including playing for Manchester United Football Club and representing Northern Ireland under 21 netball.

A number of pupils enter university in a variety of disciplines.
