Chumney was elected to the
Memphis City Council in October 2003. In 2007 she left the city council to unsuccessfully pursue a run for mayor.She attended school at:

trial attorney , Chumney began her private practice in 1987 at Glankler Brown law firm, where she later became a partner. Now she has her own law office in the White Station Tower.
