- Demetrius Philipovitch
Demetrius Philipovitch, Serbian Димитрије Филиповић (
March 9 ,1818 - after August 1928) was the first malesupercentenarian of the 20th century, with the next undisputed case being the one of Joseph Saint-Amour as late as 1962. However, Philipovitch's age cannot be fully verified due to the lack of a death certificate. He lived inYugoslavia , although that country was only created after the First World War, when he was already acentenarian . He surpassed the 110 years and 135 days ofGeert Adriaans Boomgaard onJuly 23 ,1928 , and was last known to be alive the following month. Had he survived until thatDecember 4 , he would have become the world's oldest person upon the death ofDelina Filkins . Nevertheless, it took until 1967 forJohn Mosely Turner to overtake his age record.ee also
