Robert Busnel (born
September 19 ,1914 inToulon ,France ; diedMarch 15 ,1991 inFrance ) was a French basketball player, coach and administrator.He played for the French national team in 1934-1949, winning silver medal in the 1949 European Championship.
He coached French national men's team and French national women's team in 1948-1960, winning silver in 1948 Olympics, silver in 1949 European Championships (he was also a player in that tournament), bronze medal in 1951 European Championship and 1953 European Championship and bronze in 1953 Women's World Championship.
He was the technical director (in 1960-1964) and president (in 1967-1980) of the French Basketball Federation. In 1965-1966 he coached Real Madrid. He was the president of the Standing Conference of Europe (now
FIBA Europe ) from 1976 to 1982. He served as a president of FIBA in 1984-1990.He was made Officier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1989 and awarded IOC Order of Merit in 1990. He died in an auto crash together with his wife Joëlle. In 2007, he was enshrined as a contributor to the
FIBA Hall of Fame .External links
