Reptiles magazine

Based in Irvine, California, "REPTILES" magazine is a North American consumer magazine dedicated to the reptile and amphibian pet hobby, specializing in the keeping and breeding of these animals.

Fancy Publications, now Bowtie Inc., launched the magazine in October 1993. After a year of publishing bimonthly, "REPTILES" went monthly in December 1994. Many of the columns, such as “Herpetological Queries” and “Veterinarian Q&A,” have been in the magazine since its inception.

Tips and information on keeping and breeding different herps often make up the bulk of an issue’s feature articles, but some focus on field herping, pet health or current trends in the hobby. Although popular pet animals, such as bearded dragons, red-eared sliders, leopard geckos and ball pythons, often appear in the magazine, the publication also features less commonly kept pets, such as Asian box turtles, Aldabra Giant Tortoises, Mountain Horned Chameleons, Black Headed Pythons and various venomous snakes.

Over the years many well-known reptile authorities have contributed to "REPTILES" magazine, including Philippe de Vosjoli, Dave and Tracy Barker, Dick Bartlett, Bob Applegate, Bob Mailloux, Bill Love and Douglas Mader, DVM. Usually a reptile or amphibian species is on the cover, but Slash (musician) (February 1995) and Mark O'Shea (February 2003) also have been cover subjects.

Bowtie Inc. publishes many other animal-based magazines, such as "Cat Fancy", "Dog Fancy", "Bird Talk", "Horse Illustrated", "Aquarium Fish International", and "Freshwater And Marine Aquarium","Dog World".
