STQ is an Australian television station, licensed to, and serving the regional areas of Queensland. The station is owned and operated by the Seven Network from studios located in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, using the callsign STQ, which stands for "Sunshine Television, Queensland".

History

The station began as two different operators:
*WBQ-8 Wide Bay/Maryborough, starting on April 10, 1965
*MVQ-6 Mackay, starting on August 9, 1968

WBQ later changed its callsign to SEQ (as in "South East Queensland"), and its on-air name to "Sunshine Television". MVQ also changed its on air name to "Tropical Television".

The Maryborough studios were the birthplace of Agro Fact|date=January 2008, however, he was later moved to the Seven Brisbane studios and then to Seven Sydney before the television program being cancelled.

When Queensland was aggregated at the end of 1990, SEQ-8 and MVQ-6 operationally merged to become The Sunshine Television Network, and become the regional Queensland affiliate of the Seven Network.

In 1995, Sunshine Television was purchased by Seven, and became Seven Queensland, taking on a generic Seven Network look. Seven Queensland won the annual audience ratings for the first time in 1998.

News

"Seven Local News" bulletins are broadcast weeknights in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Wide Bay, and the Sunshine Coast. They are followed by "Seven News Brisbane", in place of Today Tonight.

The local news for all regions are recorded and formatted from the Maroochydore studios, with the Sunshine Coast being the only region to receive its news broadcast live. News editing is undertaken by local bureaus in several markets, and sent to the main Maroochydore studios for broadcast. Before 2004, "Seven Local News" was only broadcast on the Sunshine Coast but as a result of regulations regarding local content on regional television introduced by the Australian Broadcasting Authority (now the Australian Communications and Media Authority) local bulletins commenced in the other markets.

Between 2004 and 2005, the Fraser Coast office/news bureau for production and news staff were relocated to a smaller office in Hervey Bay. The Maryborough studio was just too big and most news stories were filmed in the Bay. It's unknown what has happened to the Maryborough studio after the move.

On March 5, 2007, "Seven Local News" bulletins commenced production and broadcasts in a widescreen standard-definition digital format. "Seven Local News" was the first local news bulletin in regional Queensland to convert to widescreen.

The bulletins are hosted by Rob Brough, with Joanne Desmond joining in Cairns and Townsville. Yvonne Sampson presents the sport with Livio Regano presenting the local weather.
