Hiroko Yakushimaru

Hiroko Yakushimaru

is a Japanese actress and singer from Tokyo. Yakushimaru made her acting debut in the 1978 movie "Yasei no Shomei". She has a minor role as young samurai in G.I. Samurai (1979). In 1981, she played the main role in "Sailor Fuku to Kikanju", a movie based on a novel written by Jirō Akagawa under the same name, which pushed her up into stardom, as well as marking her debut in J-pop by singing the title song of the film. Her final J-pop release was on March 13, 1991. She has won four Japanese Academy Awards for 'Most Popular Performer', and won the 'Best Supporting Actress' award in 2006 for "".

She married Koji Tamaki in January 1991, but they divorced in June 1998.
