Cuthbertson has been noted for his ability to break a tackle, whilst his defence is also highly regarded. He is a front-rower who goes to the hard to the line, looking to offload the football.

Phil Gould has recognised Cuthbertson as a talented youngster whilst commentating on Channel 9. He gained the Man of the Match award for his performance against the Wests Tigers.cite web|url=http://www.manlyseaeagles.com.au/news.asp?newsid=2146&Mth=7&Yr=2007|title=News|publisher=Manly|date=2007-07-14|accessdate=2007-07-31] Phil Gould has likened the big front rower's image to that of Manly legend Graham Eadie and the way he carved up the Tigers defence you could easily cast your mind back some 35 years and assimilate his impact to a young Wombat.cite web|url=http://www.manlyseaeagles.com.au/news.asp?newsid=2146&Mth=7&Yr=2007|title=Sea Eagles vs Tigers - Match Report|publisher=RLeague.com|date=2007-07-14|accessdate=2007-07-31]

In 2007, Cuthbertson re-signed for three years, tying him to the Brookvale club until 2010.cite web|url=http://www.rleague.com/db/player/c/cuthbertson_adam/index.php|title=Manly announce two new signings and four re-signings|publisher=RLeague.com|date=2007-07-30|accessdate=2007-07-31] Cuthbertson has credited finding Christianity a year ago as the catalyst for his stunning rise from obscurity.cite web|url=http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/news/cuthbertsons-divine-inspiration/2007/07/21/1184560099651.html|title=Cuthbertson's divine inspiration|publisher=LeagueHQ|date=2007-07-22|accessdate=2007-07-31]

In round 12, 2008, Cuthbertson was sent off in the Sea Eagles' match against the Raiders for his high shot on Troy Thompson. Despite this, Manly won the game 31-18. He was suspended for one week for a careless high tackle.cite web|url=http://nrl.com.au/News/Judiciary/tabid/10246/Default.aspx|title=NRL Judiciary Charges|publisher=NRL.com] [http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/03/2263648.htm]
