2006 Lieutenant Governor candidacy

Gubernatorial co-candidacy

The Granholm and Devos campaigns normally only included a brief mention of the Lieutenant Governor candidate, but Boman shared visibility with the Gubernatorial Candidate Gregory Creswell;cite news | first=Bob | last=Campbell | coauthors=Dawson Bell and Zachary Gorchow | title=POLITICALLY SPEAKING: Scotty Boman is running again | date=May 22, 2006 | publisher = Detroit Free Press | url=http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060522/NEWS06/605220367 | accessdate = | language =English [http://michiganlp.org/Shared%20Documents/LibertariansInTheNews.aspx] ] signage contained both of their names in the same Font sizes, [Photo. [http://www.webcitation.org/5XMSyhAIM "Connecting Voters and Candidates"] . "vote-usa.org" (website).]

In addition to sharing ballot space and votes, Boman shared many positions on issues with Creswell. This is in some ways predictable since Boman was Chaircite news | first=Scotty | last=Boman | coauthors= | title=Full Exec. Boman claims to have had the same opinion on many of these issues since he first ran for office as a Libertarian.Boman, Scotty. [http://www.webcitation.org/5W8QJmW4t "Scotty Boman for Lt. Governor"] . "http://scottyboman.org" (website).]

Racial preferences

Like Creswell, Boman said his support of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI) was consistent with his opposition to all forms of state-sponsored racial or sexual discrimination. Like Creswell, he spoke in radio commercials that contrasted Libertarians from Democrats and Republicans, by supporting an end to what they called, “racial preferences.”cite news | first= | last=League of Women Voters | coauthors= | title=League of Women Voters 2006 Voters Guide | date=November, 2006 | publisher = The Saginaw News | url=http://www.mlive.com/sanews/saginaw_voters_guide.pdf | accessdate = | language =English ]

Civil liberties, prisons and non-violent crime

Boman, like Creswell, held to the notion that people should be free to act as they wish so long as they don’t initiate force against others. He was endorsed by the “Stonewall Libertarians” [Stonewall Libertarians [http://www.randyforgovernor.com/stonewall/endorsements.html "STONEWALL LIBERTARIANS ENDORSEMENTS"] . "http://www.stonewalllibertarians.com/" (website).] for openly supporting equal rights for gays. [Boman, Scotty. [http://www.webcitation.org/5XFX5DaaV "Marriage, Family, and Custody"] . "http://scottyboman.lpwm.org" (website).] Boman also argued that a respect for civil liberties would eliminate the need for replacing Michigan’s single-business tax. Boman’s alternative was to save money by pardoning people in prison for what he called “victimless crimes,” and an end to state enforcement of drug prohibitions. He focused on medical marijuana as one example of civil liberties worthy of being respected. He was also a member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), but choose not to renew his membership in 2006 because of the ACLU opposition to MCRI. [Kestenbaum, Lawrence. Economy

Boman also supported a market economy. Both he and Creswell referred to the Mackinac Center [Braun, Kenneth M. [http://www.mackinac.org/article.aspx?ID=8112 "From Worst to First: The Best Business Tax is None"] . "http://www.mackinac.org" (website).] when asked for specific ideas on practical economic reforms. In general Boman objected to all taxes, but conceded the need to phase them out carefully. [League of Women Voters. [http://www.lwvmi.org/Governor.htm "League of Women Voters of Michigan Nonpartisan Voter Guide – November 2006"] . "http://www.lwvmi.org" (website).]

Political activities since 2006

As of January, 2008, Boman has been a member of the Republican Party. He has been interviewed by Metropolitan Detroit’s major daily newspaper, the "Detroit News" about his support of Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul, and cites the Paul candidacy as a reason for becoming a Republican.

Boman has also encouraged voters to choose Ron Paul in his opinion column, and has served as an assistant meetup organizer for the "The Wayne County Ron Paul Meetup Group".

US Senate Candidacy

Boman is currently running for U.S. Senate for the Libertarian Party [cite news | first=Austin | last=Cassidy | coauthors= | title=Michigan Libertarian convention features pair of contested races; full slate of congressional and statewide candidates | date=June 7, 2008 | publisher = Independent Political Report | url= http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2008/06/michigan-libertarian-convention-features-pair-of-contested-races-full-slate-of-congressional-and-statewide-candidates/ | accessdate = | language = ] . He has been polling at 3% as of August 25, 2008. [cite news | first=WXYZ-TV | last=Staff | coauthors=Detroit News | title=EXCLUSIVE POLL: 7th & 9th Districts | date=August 25, 2008 | publisher = WXYZ-TV | url= http://www.wxyz.com/content/news/2008vote/story.aspx?content_id=b6fd9285-e8f6-4416-8b5c-b3bbe8a7ef56 | accessdate = | language = ] .

Boman joined every Libertarian candidate for the United States House of Representatives, publicly expressed disaproval for any bailout plan. A Libertarian Party of Michigan press release quotes Boman as saying "We must not tax, regulate and penalize them to bail out those on Wall Street and Main Street who have demonstrated they are not responsible, and will likely do the same thing again, and expect yet another bail out" [ ]
