Jeanette MacDonald in the firstmusical film version of "The Vagabond King," made in 1930, and byKathryn Grayson in the 1956remake . The song was recorded a number times afterward, but the only version popular enough to chart was recorded in 1954 byFrankie Laine . His recording was released byColumbia Records as catalog number 40235. It first reached theBillboard magazine Best Seller chart onJune 23 , 1954 and lasted 6 weeks on the chart, peaking at #18. cite book
