Air Education and Training Command Instructor Badge

Air Education and Training Command Instructor Badge

The Air Education and Training Instructor Badge is a military badge of the United States Air Force which denotes a service member’s status as an instructor assigned to the Air Education and Training Command. The Air Education and Training Instructor Badge is the Air Force equivalent to the United States Army’s Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.

The Air Education and Training Instructor Badge may be awarded as a temporary decoration to any Air Force service member who has completed a course of instruction as a Drill Instructor or Education Trainer. The badge is then presented upon the service member’s assignment to an Air Force Training Command, such as basic training or Officer Candidate School. The badge is also occasionally granted to non-commissioned officers attached to Air Force ROTC units who serve as Cadet Drill Instructors.

Upon completion of a tour of duty as an Air Force Training Instructor, the Air Education and Training Instructor Badge may be authorized as a permanent decoration, upon request from the service member.

The Air Education and Training Instructor Badge may only be permanently awarded if an instructor tour of duty was satisfactory, free of disciplinary action, and the service member was not at any point relieved for cause. Those receiving the Air Education and Training Instructor Badge may also be authorized to receive the Military Training Instructor Ribbon.

In January 2007, the United States Navy Uniform Regulations began to allow the wearing of this identification badge.

Trivia

*This badge tends to be referred to by Air Force personnel as a "cookie," due to its size. It is also called the "flying Ice Cream Cone", or "Push-to-talk button"
