Alan Ball Memorial Cup

Alan Ball Memorial Cup

The Alan Ball Memorial Cup was a football match played at and between England and the rest of the world on 29 July 2007 in memory of former England footballer Alan Ball. England won 4–2 in a match between teams made up of a mixture of football legends and celebrities.fact|date=September 2007 Earlier in the week, stars from television soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale played each other. That match will be shown on Sky One at 8pm on Sunday 5th July. It is the first to be played at a 4-Star UEFA Stadium. Guests in the Sky One studio included Sir Geoff Hurst and Kit Symons. The Ball family arranged the match and Jimmy Ball played for the England side. England were in white with the number 66 on the shorts (because Alan Ball was man of the match in the 1966 World Cup Final).fact|date=September 2008 The "rest of the world" team played in gold and black striped shirts. Players included in the squads were Darren Campbell and Dennis Wise for England and Gustavo Poyet for the rest of the world.
