Robbie Engelquist is a Canadian comedian and rapper from Vancouver, British Columbia. He has performed at various venues across British Columbia and is a respected comedian who deals with the subject matter of schizophrenia. His acts are unique in the way of how he makes fun of his mental disability, since he was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 18. Engelquist is also an up-and-coming rapper and his material usually relates closely to his mental illness.

Biography

Early life

At a young age Engelquist heard voices in his head, but assumed that other children also heard these "voices", and simply did not think anything was wrong with him. He had frequent outbursts at home and at school and was eventually put into the Riverview Rehabilitation Center in Coquitlam, British Columbia. After 6 months in Riverview Engelquist was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and was then prescribed medication.

Live Performances: 2004-present

Engelquist has performed all over British Columbia and has represented the BCSS (BC Schizophrenia Society) on numerous occasions. Acting Career: 2006-present

Engelquist was filmed in a CBC Documentary about people living with schizophrenia. He was also the star of the documentary "The Other Side of Me" [http://films.thelot.com/films/12936 On The Lot: Official FOX Site ] ] which is currently being considered as an info-video for people who are diagnosed with schizophrenia. Engelquist works closely with fellow childhood friend Aaron Buck who directed him in "The Other Side of Me".

Rap Career: 2006-present

Engelquist began writing poetry at a young age and fell in love with hip-hop. In 2006 Engelquist began writing rap lyrics with Aaron Buck who is a rapper and music producer from New Westminster, British Columbia. In 2007 Engelquist began recording professionally at Rockroom Productions [http://www.rockroomaudio.com/ Rockroom Productions ] ] under the moniker of "Mantis" or "Skitz Mantis Elite".
