Grant William Basey (born 30 November 1988 in Bromley, England) is a professional footballer currently playing for Charlton Athletic. Basey plays at left back.

Career

Basey joined Charlton's academy at the age of nine, having been spotted on one of the club's community courses, and signed his first professional contract with Charlton in March 2007.Cite web

Basey scored his first ever professional goal in a 4-1 victory over Coventry City on the 4th of May 2008 just 3 days after signing a new 2 year deal keeping him at The Valley until 2010

Basey received another call up to the Wales U21 squad for the friendly match against England U21 on 15 May, 2008. Given the number 12 shirt, he was an unused substitute in his teams 2-0 loss at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

Personal life

He currently lives in Chislehurst with his family and attended Coopers Technology College in Chislehurst between the age of 11 and 16. [cite news

Basey is an avid golfer and plays to a respectable handicap of 7. He currently plays and has represented Chislehurst Golf Club on numerous occasions. His favoured playing partner is Michael Forbes, a former junior captain, who holds a handicap of three.Fact|date=December 2007
