Aguirre is the name of the sixth canton in the province of Puntarenas in
Costa Rica . The canton covers an area of 543.77 km² [Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), 2001.] , and has a population of 21,705 [Estimates of Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (INEC), May 2003.] . Its capital city isQuepos , also known as Puerto Quepos.The canton lies along the central Pacific coast between the mouths of the Río Damas and Río Barú. The northeastern border runs through high, remote coastal mountain ranges. The canton is most famous for being the home of
