Delaney and the Feninas contested a total of eight senior county finals between 1969 and 1978, with victories also coming in 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1977. Delaney also won a Leinster club title in 1974.Inter-county
Delaney first came to prominence as a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team in 1969. That year he won his first Leinster title, before subsequently collecting his first All-Ireland medal following a victory over Cork in the championship decider. Kilkenny lost their provincial and All-Ireland titles in 1970, however, Delaney collected a second Leinster medal in 1971. Kilkenny later played Tipperary in the All-Ireland final, however, victory went to Tipp on that occasion. 1972 saw Delaney win a third provincial medal. This was later converted into a second All-Ireland medal, as Kilkenny defeated Cork in a classic final. Kilkenny continued their Leinster dominance in 1973 with Delaney picking up a fourth provincial title, however, Kilkenny later lost their All-Ireland title to Limerick. In spite of this defeat he was still presented with a second consecutive All-Star award. In 1974 Delaney added a fifth Leinster medal to his colelction. ‘The Cats’ later gained revenge on Limerick by defeating them in the championship decider, giving Delaney a third All-Ireland medal. In 1975 Kilkenny completed a two-in-a-row, giving Delaney his sixth Leinster medal and his fourth All-Ireland title. 1976 finally saw Kilkenny beaten in the Leinster Championship, however, Delaney did win a
National Hurling League title at the start of the year.Trivia
