Sonawane

Sonawane is a surname of Non Brahmins in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra.It is more commonly found amongst people in eastern part of Nashik district, adjoining Dhulia and Jalgaon district (Khandesh). It is pronounced as [So-nove-nay] and not [So-naa-waa-nee] . Broadly the Sonawanes are Marathi speaking, Hindu, Maharashtrians. Some of people having surname Sonawane live in Nhavi village which is in Bhor, Pune district. Around 500 families of Sonawane surname are living at one place. The surname occurs amongst all castes representing the identity of a unified Bahujan Samaj.Maratha community of Nashik district also bears this title indicating their place in the Bahujan fold.
