synonyms ="Limnornis rectirostris"The Straight-billed Reedhaunter ("Limnoctites rectirostris") is a
South America nbird species in the familyFurnariidae . It is today placed in themonotypic genus "Limnoctites".Formerly it was – and in some works it still is – placed in "Limnornis", but it seems closer to the typical spinetails ("
Cranioleuca ") than to theCurve-billed Reedhaunter ("Limnornis curvirostris") which lives in the same general region andhabitat , and thus shares someadaptation s with "L. rectirostris". The modern treatment makes "Limnornis" monotypic also. As using monotypic genera if not really necessary is eschewed by mosttaxonomist s today, the Straight-billed Reedhaunter is liable to be placed in "Cranioleuca" if further studies verify its placement. [Olson "et al." (2005)]This bird is found in north-eastern
Argentina , south-easternBrazil andUruguay , where it is essentially limited to marshy areas in thepampas andplanalto grassland s [Bencke (2007)] . It prefers localities with abundant growth of spiny eryngos –plant s of the genus "Eryngium " – and is becoming rare due tohabitat loss .Footnotes
